Businesses Save $12.4bn through Low Carbon Initiatives

Businesses are finding that saving the planet is good for the bottom line, with companies who have invested in carbon-cutting measures reporting savings of US$12.4 billion in 2016.

CDP, formerly known as Carbon Disclosure Project, has just released its latest report which show an impressive 434 million tonnes of carbon emissions were saved by businesses world-wide through making efficiencies in their supply chains. To put that statistic into context, it is more than the entire annual carbon emissions of France.

Sunshine and Wind to the Fore in Morocco

A desire to drastically reduce its reliance on energy imports in the form of coal, oil and gas is quietly making Morocco one of the leading low-carbon nations in not just Africa, but in the world.

When an ambitious target of sourcing 42% of its energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020 was set by the government the reasons were clear. In 2012 the country spent US $10 billion on energy imports – more than a tenth of its GDP and a figure that could be seen as holding back the development of Morocco's economy.
