When it comes to the fight against climate change in the USA, Hollywood star and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has stepped in to try and provide the leadership vacuum created by President Donald Trump.

The USA Schwarzenegger Institute has just launched an online database, which he hopes will become an invaluable tool for local and state legislators seeking for ways to advance the environmental cause.

A Million Square Miles of Plastic Pollution Discovered in South Pacific

A six-month scientific voyage has discovered a huge 'patch' of plastic pollution in the South Pacific. 

The expedition, led by Captain Charles Moore of the Algalita Research Foundation, found an area of ocean measuring up to a million square miles, was heavily contaminated with tiny fragments of waste plastic.

Plastic poses a real detriment to the survival of the planet. Although efforts have been implemented to reduce human’s reliance on plastic, it still results in over 8 million tonnes of plastic waste being dumped into our oceans every year. Plastic is not biodegradable, and can survive and float as ocean debris for 100s of years. This plastic ends up being ingested by both fish and birds and ends taking up huge amounts of space in our landfills.
